Years ago designer Lucas Burnley brought the iconic Squid™ to life. Skyrocketing in popularity as a fan-favorite compact carry, the folding knife became a top choice for those looking to strike the right balance of simplicity, performance, and functionality. Now, Lucas takes a new stab at reimagining this time-honored design, bringing us the larger SQUID™ XM. Still checking the box of being a versatile everyday carry, the longer blade length handles tasks both big and small—and is now recognized as a bit more “extra medium” in size.

Designed by Lucas Burnley, the Squid™ was conceptualized as powerful in performance, but equally adaptable to everyday challenges. Whether being put to work at home, the garage, or in the office, the Squid™ could go with you anywhere. Following the release of the original design, Lucas hasn’t stopped receiving interest from fans asking him to reimagine the popular blade as slightly larger. And in true Lucas fashion, the knife designer got to work to see what was possible. Now introducing the SQUID™ XM, Lucas delivers a creation that’s just as iconic as the original, while still leading with functionality and user-friendly simplicity.

Perfecting how this latest version would scale, Lucas didn’t skip over any details—
ensuring that the ‘extra medium’ was just as seamless in how it performs. Just like its predecessor, the SQUID™ XM features a drop-point style blade, achieving an excellent balance of tip strength and point geometry for utility tasks. When you’re ready to put it to work, Ken Onion’s Assisted Opening deploys the blade in the blink of an eye, with the IKBS™ ball bearing pivot system creating a super smooth rotation.

After the durable D2 blade has fulfilled its duty, you can rest easy stowing it away in your pocket—its internal frame lock and deep pocket clip, making it a secure carry for on-the-go transport.
